2025-2026
2024–2029 Strategic Plan Update (Goals 1, 2, and 3):
At the October 2025 Board of Education meeting, the district presented an update on progress toward the 2024–2029 Strategic Plan. Through this presentation, the district provided the community with a comprehensive overview of progress toward the 2024–2029 Strategic Plan, showcasing measurable outcomes and next steps in key areas, including technology integration, curriculum development, student achievement, and facilities improvement.
Principal Forums Continue Across Schools:
Kinnelon Public Schools remains committed to open communication and community engagement through our ongoing Principal Forums. This fall, each school recorded a forum designed to keep families informed, share updates on academic initiatives, and provide a platform for parent feedback and collaboration.
To continue fostering connection and transparency, Kinnelon High School will host a Coffee with the Principal session on Tuesday, November 12, in the morning. This informal gathering will provide parents with the opportunity to meet with school leaders, ask questions, and share their input on ongoing programs and student experiences.
Cell Phone-Free Schools Policy Adoption:
In alignment with the district’s commitment to fostering focus, well-being, and community engagement, the Kinnelon Board of Education officially adopted a Cell Phone-Free Schools Policy for the 2025–2026 school year. Developed with input from the Citizens Advisory Committee, this initiative encourages a healthier learning environment by reducing digital distractions and promoting face-to-face interaction during the school day.
As part of this effort, the district was awarded a $3,494 grant from the New Jersey Department of Education, recognizing Kinnelon’s proactive approach to supporting student mental health, attentiveness, and academic engagement. The policy represents a collaborative effort between families, staff, and community members to create spaces that prioritize learning, connection, and student well-being.

District Profile Launch (Goal 4 – Communication) - Kinnelon Public Schools developed and published a comprehensive District Profile to provide families, staff, and community members with a clear snapshot of the district’s academic programs, student achievements, staffing, enrollment, finances, and strategic priorities.
The District Profile serves as a central reference point for understanding the strengths, growth, and performance of Kinnelon Public Schools. By combining key data with visual storytelling, it reflects the district’s ongoing commitment to transparency, accountability, and community engagement.
This initiative aligns with the Communication goal, ensuring stakeholders have accessible, up-to-date information about how Kinnelon continues to achieve excellence in education.
Board Certification & Leadership Development (Goal 4 - Communication): In 2024, the Kinnelon Board of Education earned recertification from NJSBA, having first achieved certification in 1996 and again in 2017. This milestone reflects years of commitment to governance training, goal-setting, and community engagement. The board also led strategic planning efforts and continues to model transparency through initiatives like this dashboard.

Continued Engagement with Stakeholders (Goal 4 - Communication) : Expanded community outreach by hosting additional in-person and pre-recorded forums, including a live-streamed Technology Symposium, ensuring accessibility and fostering ongoing dialogue with parents, students, and community members. Realtime Parent Portal Launch (Goal 4 - Communication): Kinnelon Public Schools launched the Realtime Parent Portal in August 2024, providing parents with realtime access to their children's grades, report cards, schedules, and teachers. For the first time, transportation information and letters were delivered digitally, enhancing efficiency and accessibility. In September 2024, the district distributed the 2024 NJSLA test results electronically through the portal, promoting transparency regarding student performance. Additionally, parents can utilize the dedicated app for timely updates and notifications, reinforcing our commitment to effective communication with all community stakeholders.

- Forums: Held several In-person & pre recorded forums throughout the school year.
- New Website Launch: In May of 2024 we launched this site to bring a more streamlined approach to communicate important information to our school community. Some new features include synced Google calendars for easy access to upcoming events and announcements sections for the latest news and important notices. The website is now mobile-responsive, ensuring a seamless experience on all devices, and is designed to be user-friendly, making it easier than ever to stay connected with our school.
- Revitalization of District Social Media Platforms: Facebook and Instagram were refreshed to enhance communication and engagement with parents and the community. They also showcase the district’s successes, highlight student achievements, and keep parents informed about upcoming events and important announcements.
- Student Information System Upgrade: In July of 2024 we will launch our new SIS through Realtime. Realtime's notification module will be utilized to communicate messages out to families via email, text, and phone calls.

Fall Tech Symposium: On 9/23/24 the district will be providing parents with a start-of-the-year opportunity where they will be able to bring their devices (or use one of our chromebooks), and be walked through the new Realtime portal, Realtime app, and the new district website.
Facilities

2025-2026
KHS Track Renovation (Goal 3 -Finance / Facilities / Security): The Kinnelon High School Track Renovation Project, completed in Summer 2025, utilized capital funds to improve student and community facilities without increasing taxpayer burden. The project, approved by the Board of Education, ensures long-term cost savings through preventative maintenance and enhanced durability.
By strategically allocating funds to high-impact projects like the track renovation, Kinnelon Public Schools continues to uphold fiscal responsibility, transparency, and a forward-thinking approach to maintaining safe, modern, and efficient learning environments.


Dust Collection System Upgrade – KHS Woodshop (Goal 3 -Finance / Facilities / Security): Upgraded the dust collection system in the KHS Woodshop in August 2025 to improve air quality, safety, and functionality for students participating in the district’s new hands-on technical education courses.
Milling & Paving of KHS Service Road and Parking Lot (Goal 3 -Finance / Facilities / Security): The district is preparing for the milling and paving of the KHS service road and student parking lot, a project aimed at improving traffic flow, accessibility, and long-term infrastructure reliability. This initiative, part of the district’s highlights Kinnelon’s ongoing efforts to maintain and enhance school facilities through proactive, cost-effective capital planning.
Transition to PaySchools (Goal 1 – Financial Stewardship):
Kinnelon Public Schools successfully transitioned to PaySchools Central for the collection of cafeteria payments, as well as activity-related fees such as field trips, club dues, athletic fees, and AP test payments. This new system streamlines the payment process for families by offering a single, user-friendly platform integrated directly with the district’s student information system.
The move to PaySchools enhances accountability and transparency, ensuring that all funds are accurately routed and managed. This initiative supports the district’s Financial Stewardship Goal by reducing manual processing and improving the overall efficiency and security of financial operations.
New Facilities Request & Calendar System (Goal 1 – Financial Stewardship): Kinnelon Public Schools launched a new Facilities Request and Calendar System that allows outside organizations to easily view availability and submit online requests to reserve district spaces. This user-friendly system also functions as a digital permit platform, featuring all facility usage fees and cost structures directly within the application process for full transparency.
The system streamlines communication, ensures accurate scheduling, and improves financial accountability by automating approvals and routing payments. This initiative supports the district’s Financial Stewardship Goal by enhancing operational efficiency, ensuring appropriate use of school facilities, and maintaining a fair, consistent process for community access to district spaces.

Summer 2024 Facilities Upgrades: Two sections of partial roof replacements were completed at Kiel School and Stonybrook School, ensuring the safety and longevity of the buildings.
Phase Two Technology Infrastructure Upgrade: Upgrades were implemented at Sisco School, Kiel School, and Stonybrook School to enhance the district's technology capabilities, supporting student learning and district operations.
Audio System Upgrade at PRM: The audio system in the all-purpose room at Pearl R. Miller School (PRM) was upgraded, improving sound quality for events and enhancing communication during school functions.

- Facilities Assessment: At the April 25th, 2023 public meeting, the Board of Education authorized DiCara Rubino Architects to conduct a district-wide facility assessment. The assessment was completed throughout the summer and early Fall of 2023. Those findings were presented at the November 14, 2023 public meeting.

2025-2026
2025 State Assessment Results (Goal 2 – Student Achievement):
Kinnelon Public Schools demonstrated strong academic performance on the 2025 New Jersey Student Learning Assessments (NJSLA), with elementary students showing exceptional growth in both ELA and Math. Grades 3–5 led the district, supported by new resources such as HMH Into Reading and IXL Takeoff. While Grades 6–7 maintained solid results, targeted support is planned for Grade 8 and Algebra I to address dips in proficiency and attendance. A new science pathway and expanded data analysis practices will continue to strengthen instruction and student outcomes across all grade levels.

Woodshop Program (Goals 1 & 2 – Student Retention & Student Achievement):
The new Woodshop program at Kinnelon High School offers students a hands-on opportunity to design, build, and create using real-world tools and techniques. This course cultivates problem-solving, craftsmanship, and applied STEM skills, while also engaging students in experiential learning that promotes ownership, creativity, and connection to future career pathways. The program builds pride and retention by giving students tangible, skill-based successes that link classroom learning to practical applications.

Tomorrow’s Teachers Program (Goal 2 – Student Achievement):
New for the 2025–2026 school year, Kinnelon High School introduced the Tomorrow’s Teachers course, a dual enrollment opportunity through Rider University, designed for students interested in exploring careers in education. Through this partnership, students earn both high school and college credit while gaining hands-on experience through classroom observations and mentorship. The program fosters leadership, communication, and a deeper understanding of teaching as a profession, aligning with the district’s goal of expanding academic pathways and preparing students for success beyond high school.
Let Grow Program Launch at Kiel & Stonybrook (Board Goal 1): For the 25-26 School Year, Kinnelon Public Schools launched the Let Grow Program at Kiel and Stonybrook Schools to foster students’ independence, confidence, and resilience through monthly, age-appropriate “homework” challenges completed at home.
Developed from conversations with the Citizens Advisory Committee, the program encourages students to take initiative and develop responsibility through real-life experiences, such as preparing a snack, organizing their school materials, or completing a creative project independently. Teachers introduce a new theme in class each month, and students reflect on their experiences during morning and afternoon meetings, building a stronger home-school connection and sense of personal accomplishment.
Theater Arts Program Launch (Goal 1 – Student Retention): Kinnelon Public Schools proudly launched a new Theater Arts Program for the 2025–2026 school year, providing students at both Pearl R. Miller Middle School and Kinnelon High School with dynamic opportunities to explore acting, directing, stage design, and production. This districtwide initiative creates a connected pathway between PRM and KHS, allowing students to grow their skills and confidence from middle school through high school.

Engineering & Robotics Program (Goal 2 – Student Achievement): As part of Kinnelon High School’s expanding STEM pathway, the new Engineering & Robotics courses engage students in hands-on, project-based learning experiences focused on innovation, design thinking, and automation. Using modern tools and technology, students learn to prototype, test, and refine solutions to real-world problems, preparing them for careers in engineering, technology, and advanced manufacturing. These programs reflect the district’s ongoing commitment to 21st-century learning and future-focused education.
KHS Goes Global (Goal 1 – Student Retention): Over the Summer of 2025, Kinnelon High School students participated in the district’s first-ever Study Abroad Program, traveling to China with Mrs. Oluwole and Mr. Arroyo. Students explored the country’s rich culture, history, and innovation, with unforgettable stops including the Great Wall of China.
This extraordinary opportunity was made possible through the International Partnership of Education Research and Communication (IPERC), which promotes immersive, educational travel experiences that help students become global citizens. The program reflects Kinnelon’s dedication to expanding learning beyond the classroom and preparing students for success in an interconnected world.

Summer Math Academy (Goal 2 Student Achievement): Kinnelon Public Schools hosted its second annual Summer Math Academy at Pearl R. Miller School and Kinnelon High School, offering accelerated learning opportunities for motivated students. This year, Precalculus Honors was added as a new course option, expanding pathways for motivated students to accelerate in mathematics.
At the high school level, courses such as Geometry and Precalculus Honors are credit-bearing, allowing students to advance in their math sequence over the summer. The program reflects the district’s ongoing commitment to expanding academic pathways, enrichment opportunities, and readiness for future success in mathematics and beyond.


Summer STEAM Camp (Goals 1 & 2 – Student Retention & Student Achievement): Students in grades 1–6 participated in an exciting, hands-on STEAM Camp during the summer of 2025. From building marble mazes and rollercoasters to launching air-powered cars and engineering circuits, students explored problem-solving, teamwork, and innovation every day. Older STEAM campers also dove into coding and robotics, using tools like Ozobots and Makey Makey kits to bring their ideas to life through technology. The program inspired creativity, curiosity, and collaboration, helping students connect scientific thinking with real-world applications in a fun and engaging environment.
Showcasing Innovation in Learning- Takeoff by IXL (Goal 2 -Student Achievement):
Kinnelon Public Schools is transforming classrooms through Takeoff Math by IXL, a personalized learning platform designed to strengthen foundational skills and promote student success. In this video, teachers and administrators share how they’re fostering a thriving learning community that supports every learner.
2024-2025
Elementary Curriculum Updates (Goal 2 – Student Achievement): The 2024–2025 school year brought exciting instructional updates for Kinnelon’s elementary students. The district piloted Takeoff Math by IXL in grades K–5, providing students with interactive, adaptive practice to strengthen foundational skills and support differentiation. Simultaneously, the new HMH Into Reading program was launched in language arts, introducing a structured, evidence-based approach.
To reflect these curriculum enhancements, the K–5 report card was revised to align with state standards and provide clearer insight into student progress. In addition, Stonybrook School’s grades 3–5 adopted a departmentalized structure, allowing teachers to specialize in their content areas, deepen instructional expertise, and provide more focused learning experiences for students.
Dual Enrollment Expansion (Goal 2 – Student Achievement):
At the high school, Kinnelon Public Schools expanded its dual enrollment offerings through an ongoing partnership with William Paterson University. Students now have opportunities to earn college credit in newly approved AP Science and AP Math courses, as well as in World Languages and Ceramics 3 Honors.
These additions strengthen academic pathways and provide students with increased access to college-level coursework while still in high school. By broadening course offerings and enhancing academic rigor, the district continues to prepare students for success in college, career, and beyond.
Fall 2024 Curriculum Focus Presentation ( Goal 2 -Student Achievement, Goal 3-Student Experience and Retention, Goal 1- Financial Stewardship):
Key updates from the fall 2024 presentation included the introduction of Into Reading (K-5 ELA), IXL Takeoff (K-5 Math), quiz analysis tools, and report card adjustments. Transition initiatives for 8th graders, such as the Shadow Day during Spirit Week and plans for a Freshman Academy were highlighted. New elective offerings at KHS and early intervention programs at Kiel and Sisco Schools were introduced to support student achievement and retention. All initiatives are designed with cost-efficiency and resource alignment in mind, ensuring both academic excellence and responsible financial management.
2024 AP School Honor Roll Recognition (Goal 2 - Student Achievement) : Kinnelon High School has proudly received the silver award for the 2024 AP® School Honor Roll, recognizing our commitment to developing an AP program that fosters a college-going culture. This achievement reflects our efforts to provide students with valuable opportunities to earn college credit and enhance their future college outcomes, aligning with our district goal of promoting academic excellence and college readiness for all students.

NJSLA Results Presentation - Spring 2024 Administrations for ELA, Math, and Science (Goal 2 - Student Achievement):
The district's Spring 2024 NJSLA results reflect high student achievement, particularly in ELA and Mathematics, where the majority of students scored at or above the Meeting Expectations level. Notably, our 7th-grade ELA and Algebra II students demonstrated remarkable proficiency, with over 75% meeting or exceeding standards. These results align with District Goal 2 as the district continues to exceed state averages, demonstrating the effectiveness of our academic programs and targeted interventions.

Varsity Tutors Partnership (Goal 2 - Student Achievement): Kinnelon Public Schools has partnered with Varsity Tutors to provide all students with free access to live online tutoring and a wide range of educational resources. This initiative supports student achievement by offering personalized academic assistance and enrichment opportunities, aligning with the district's efforts to enhance learning outcomes across grade levels.

- High Impact Tutoring Grant: Awarded to district to provide ELA and math support for students in grades 3 & 4 to build foundational skills
- Response to Intervention (RTI) -Developed a systematic approach to instruction in each school that uses three tiers of research-based strategies and interventions to optimize student growth.
- Summer 2024 Instruction: Continuation of tutoring/small group instruction during to reinforce foundational skills in ELA and Math in Grade 1-9.
- KHS Program of Studies Update: Includes addition of CP-A level and updates to the waiver process.

IXL Implementation (Grades K-8): Utilized data for monitoring progress, growth, and for intervention. Access was expanded access to all students in Grades 6-8. This will be used as a supplemental resource to support any students who are struggling with concepts.

2025-2026
Expanded Exterior Camera Coverage (Goal 3 - Finance / Facilities / Security): Kinnelon Public Schools expanded its exterior camera systems at Pearl R. Miller, Kiel, Stonybrook, and the district garage, increasing perimeter visibility and enhancing real-time monitoring across all campuses. This upgrade aligns with the Finance / Facilities / Security goal, ensuring student and staff safety through modernized infrastructure while supporting the district’s long-range facility plan.
Interior Hallway Security Gates (Goal 3 - Finance / Facilities / Security): To promote a safe and structured learning environment, Kinnelon Public Schools installed interior hallway security gates in every building. These gates enhance crowd control and emergency preparedness, helping staff manage access during events or emergencies.
KHS Security System Repair (Goal 3 - Finance / Facilities / Security): The Kinnelon High School security system was fully repaired and upgraded, ensuring reliable monitoring, communication, and emergency response capabilities. This project supports the Finance / Facilities / Security goal by maintaining the integrity of the district’s safety infrastructure and aligning with long-term facility modernization priorities.
Districtwide Swipe Card System Assessment (Goal 1-Financial Stewardship & Student Retention: Kinnelon Public Schools conducted a districtwide swipe card system assessment and staff ID cleanup to strengthen building access control and operational efficiency. These improvements streamline staff entry, enhance accountability, and ensure secure access management across all facilities. This project prepares the district for coordinated planning and shared staffing between PRM and KHS while maintaining cost-effective, secure operations.

Card Swipe Access for Spiro Complex Snack Shack (Goal 4: Communication: Expand Community Outreach): A swipe card reader was installed at the snack shack to facilitate access for external community groups during their events. Access cards can be programmed to activate and deactivate at specific times and dates, ensuring that groups can use the snack shack only during their approved time slots.
Online Application Process for Kinnelon Public Schools Facility Use (Goal 1: Financial Stewardship):
An online application system was developed and implemented for external organizations requesting the use of district facilities. This streamlined process notifies all stakeholders, flags any issues with applications, and speeds up the permit issuance. Additionally, it allows the district to bill users for facility rentals—such as fields, gymnasiums, cafeterias, auditoriums, and custodial services—after their events have concluded.
Updated Evacuation and Reunification Procedures at All Schools: In collaboration with the Kinnelon Police Department and the Kinnelon Department of Public Works, the district has successfully revised its evacuation and reunification procedures. New locations have been designated for each school, ensuring adequate shelter from the elements, as well as access to heat, water, and facilities. All schools conducted practice drills to familiarize staff and students with the evacuation process to their assigned locations.
New Camera System Installed at Kinnelon High School: Kinnelon High School has upgraded to a new, state-of-the-art camera system, replacing the older, slower setup. The new system includes 136 cameras that provide comprehensive coverage of the school’s interior, exterior, and athletic fields. Key features include extended recording times, additional cameras, telescopic lenses, license plate readers, motion detection recording, and the capability for multiple users to view footage simultaneously. The system also allows for remote access from off-site computers or phones. This enhanced coverage enables the administration to monitor the entire building and campus within seconds, ensuring the safety of students and staff.
Additional Cameras Installed at Pearl R. Miller Middle School: Six new cameras have been added to the surveillance system at Pearl R. Miller Middle School. Four of these are telescopic cameras, providing comprehensive coverage of the athletic field at the back of the school, which will be especially useful for monitoring athletic events, PE classes, and recess. The remaining two cameras offer a clear view of the road and sidewalk behind the building, enhancing surveillance of cars in the lot and students on the sidewalk, particularly during dismissal.
Realtime Student Scanning System (Goal 4: Communication) : In September 2024 we implemented a student scanning system at PRM and KHS, integrated with the Realtime student information system, allowing for efficient management of late arrivals and student movements throughout the day. Students can scan in and out for open lunch at KHS, as well as visits to guidance, the nurse, the CST, and the media center across both buildings. This initiative not only improves attendance accuracy for teachers but also fosters transparency for parents, who can access scanning data through the portal. This aligns with our district goal of enhancing communication and engagement with families, ensuring they are informed about their children's whereabouts during the school day.

The plan establishes clear expectations for AI use by students and staff, outlines ethical guidelines, and defines a structured tool-approval process to ensure safety, transparency, and instructional value. An accompanying AI Information webpage now provides families and staff with access to the plan, resources, approved tools, and professional development updates, reflecting the district’s commitment to responsible innovation and open communication.
Adoption of AI Tools to Support Teaching & Learning (Goal 2 – Student Achievement):
Kinnelon Public Schools continues to lead in responsible innovation with the adoption of Gemini, NotebookLM, and Brisk, AI-powered tools designed to enhance both teaching and learning. These platforms empower teachers to differentiate instruction, streamline planning, and provide personalized feedback to meet the diverse needs of their students.
For students in grades 6–12, these tools offer safe, structured opportunities to explore AI as a learning companion, supporting research, organization, and creative problem-solving. This initiative aligns with the district’s Artificial Intelligence Implementation & Acceptable Use Plan and reflects Kinnelon’s commitment to preparing students for the future through technology-rich, equitable, and engaging learning experiences.
2024-2025
Fall 2024 Technology Symposium (Goal 4 - Communication): The district's fall Technology Symposium featured an insightful presentation by Lauren Muriello on screen time and youth mental health. The event emphasized practical advice for parents and showcased district tools, such as the Realtime Parent Link App, to enhance communication and engagement with families and community stakeholders. The Technology Symposium, also aligns with the Board's goal to engage community stakeholders in discussions about creating a "Cell Phone-Free School Environment." The event's focus on managing screen time and fostering healthier digital habits provides valuable insights for parents and community members, supporting the ongoing exploration of this potential policy change.
New Touchscreen Acer Spin Devices for Grades 6–9 (Goal 2 – Student Achievement): Kinnelon Public Schools implemented new touchscreen Acer Spin Chromebooks for grades 6–8 and grade 9, replacing older devices to support digital learning and creativity. Each device is equipped with a protective case to ensure durability and reduce repair needs.
This technology upgrade enhances student engagement and access to interactive learning tools across content areas, supporting the district’s Student Achievement goal by providing modern, reliable devices that strengthen instruction and digital fluency.
Chromebook Repair Course Launch (Goal 2 -Student Achievement, Goal 3-Student Experience and Retention: A new Chromebook Repair course was launched at both Pearl R. Miller School and Kinnelon High School, offering students hands-on experience in technical troubleshooting, device maintenance, and hardware repair.
This program empowers students to develop real-world technology skills while supporting the district’s 1:1 Chromebook initiative. By combining practical training with problem-solving, the course advances the Student Achievement and Student Experience goals, preparing students for future pathways in technology and engineering.
Quizlet Pro Access for KHS Students (Goal 2: Student Achievement): Quizlet Pro was acquired for the 24-25 school year for high school students, enhancing their study experience with advanced tools, unlimited custom study sets, personalized study modes, and ad-free studying. This initiative supports our commitment to improving student learning outcomes.

- 1:1 Digital Learning Environment & Device Guidelines Handbook: Developed guidelines to support the integration of 1:1 devices and communicated these procedures to students, parents, and staff to ensure consistency and accountability.

New Special Education Program at PRM (Goals 1 & 2 – Student Retention & Student Achievement):
Kinnelon Public Schools proudly launched a new Multiple Disabilities (MD) Program at Pearl R. Miller Middle School for the 2025–2026 school year. This program was created to provide continuity and a seamless transition for students advancing from Stonybrook’s program, ensuring consistent academic and therapeutic support. This program offers a nurturing environment focused on individualized instruction, life skills development, and inclusive learning opportunities.
KHS Transition Program Expansion (Goals 1 & 2 – Student Retention & Student Achievement): The Kinnelon High School Transition Program for students aged 18–21 continues to grow, offering expanded community-based job sites and vocational experiences during the 2025–2026 school year. Through partnerships with local businesses and organizations, students gain valuable hands-on experience that builds independence, workplace readiness, and confidence. This expansion reflects the district’s dedication to supporting students with special needs beyond the classroom, helping them develop the skills necessary for success in employment, community participation, and lifelong learning.

Paraprofessional Support and Data-Driven Decision Making (Goal 2 - Student Achievement): The Student Services Department has implemented a system to ensure paraprofessionals are actively supporting students in progressing toward their IEP goals and objectives. Paraprofessionals now collect monthly data on key learner behaviors, such as attending to tasks, following routines, completing independent work, and transitioning between activities. This data is analyzed by teachers, case managers, and the BCBA to inform ongoing training for paraprofessionals and to identify the resources and programs students need to succeed. This approach ensures that our students receive targeted support and opportunities for increased independence.
Supporting Student Achievement Through Targeted Professional Development (Goal 2: Student Achievement): The Student Services Department offered comprehensive professional development (PD) opportunities during Fall 2024. These sessions were designed to equip Child Study Team (CST) members, teachers, and counselors with the tools needed to enhance student outcomes. For CST members, sessions included topics such as "Welcome to the CST – Now What?" and "Maximizing Student Independence Through Teacher Aide Support in IEPs." Counselors received training on critical issues like addressing anxiety and school avoidance, as well as using the Columbia-Suicide Severity Rating Scale (C-SSRS). Teachers were provided with tools to implement differentiated instruction, harness technology, and collaborate with paraprofessionals. This targeted PD supports our mission to improve student achievement across all grade levels.
Sustainable Special Education Programs (Goal 1: Financial Stewardship): In Kinnelon, our commitment to Financial Stewardship extends to ensuring sustainable and impactful special education programs. We’ve implemented initiatives across multiple schools that not only enhance learning for students with special needs but also optimize resources for long-term success. At Kiel School, we’ve created four new programs, including a co-taught class for K-2 and a multisensory teacher using Orton-Gillingham-based methods, to provide targeted early interventions. At Sisco, we closely assess preschool students to address developmental needs early on, and at Stonybrook, special education instruction is infused into general education, including expanded access to our Wilson-certified teacher. Our Middle and High School students demonstrating significant progress can now benefit from the consult model, a step-out from our In-Class Support program. These efforts reflect our ongoing dedication to fostering student achievement while maintaining responsible financial practices.
