Additional Program Details
The Kinnelon Integrated preschool program seeks to provide a positive and nurturing learning experience for children to play and learn. Special needs and typically developing children will be placed together in an integrated learning environment that utilizes a developmental approach. Children are immersed in various planned activities that promote readiness skills, language, and social/emotional growth. Research has consistently shown that all students benefit from being in this type of program.
The integrated preschool program will be held in the Sisco building, adjacent to Kiel School, five days a week and will run from 9:20 am to 3:20 pm, and will follow the same schedule as Kiel school.
The daily schedule includes circle time, small and large group activities, centers, snack, story time and teacher facilitated play time. The classes will also participate in specials that may include gym, music, art and library, as well as play outdoors when weather permits. Learning activities are based upon the New Jersey Department of Education’s Preschool Teaching and Learning Expectations as well as activities designed to meet the individual needs and abilities of each child.
The classes will be taught by a dual certified teacher in Special Education and P-3 General Education. A teaching assistant will provide additional instructional support. The integrated preschool program uses the Creative Curriculum. This program provides activities sequenced in a developmental trajectory and scaffolds to support children based on their current levels of development. Focusing on learning through play, the curriculum supports children's underlying cognitive skills, social-emotional school readiness, and foundational skills in literacy, mathematics, and science.
