• Special Services at Kinnelon High School

    For those parents whose students continue to be eligible for special education and related services:

    • Case managers from Pearl R. Miller (PRM) will meet with their counterparts at Kinnelon High School (KHS) to share detailed information concerning your student’s strengths, areas of need, and all pertinent information in the Individualized Educational Plan (IEP)
    • Case managers from KHS will be available during the scheduling process in the spring to answer any specific questions or concerns you might have
    • Your new case manager at the high school will contact you at the very beginning of the school year to begin a relationship that will endure throughout the four years of high school
    • KHS teachers will read and become familiar with your student’s IEP by no later than two weeks into the first marking period
    • For those students receiving related services (speech, occupational therapy, physical therapy), these will continue to be provided at KHS
    • Case managers across the district are of superior quality.  They truly care about your child.  You can expect a continuation of a very positive and productive relationship with your case manager at KHS

    For those parents whose students are not currently eligible for special education and related services and who begin experiencing difficulties:

    • KHS has an Intervention and Referral Services (I& RS) Committee whose mission is to provide additional supports to students experiencing academic difficulties.  This committee draws on the expertise from members of the Child Study Team to help design interventions to support students
    • Should the I & RS process not yield satisfactory results, students may be referred for more intensive support services

    Post secondary planning: 

    • Upon entering KHS an increasing emphasis is placed on fostering student autonomy and exploring post secondary options 
    • Case managers work in conjunction with your student’s guidance counselor to support this process 
    • A structured learning experience coordinator is available to provide job coaching and workplace readiness experiences, where necessary 
    • All special education students who are college bound are individually tested in their junior and/or senior years.  This insures that colleges have current information in the event that a student requests accommodations and modifications in the post secondary setting
