Second graders love to celebrate their birthdays.  I love to celebrate them too.  I think it is essential to honor children when it is their special day.  It makes them feel amazing and important.  I will be contacting families prior to his/her child's birthday to arrange a date and time for the happy occasion.  Your child is invited to bring in a special book to share with the class in honor of his/her special day.  We encourage our birthday friend to discuss why the book was chosen and to speak about any favorite parts.  Your child will have the choice to read the book aloud or I can read the book to the class.  If the book is long, then your child we be able to read an excerpt from the book.  Alternately, parents are welcome, if possible, to read to the class.  When I contact you regarding your child's birthday, I will ask if you'd like to come and read.  If so, I will give you some possible times to read.  Times vary depending on the day.

    Additionally your child may...

    1.  Donate a book to our classroom library in honor of his/her birthday.  The book can be new or gently used.

    2. A small trinket is also acceptable, such as a pencil or stickers for each child.  There are currently 19 students in our class for the 2015-16 school year.

I am looking forward to celebrating each child's birthday.

Your child may pass out birthday invitations in school: however invitations must be for all of the children or just for the boys or girls, as we don't want anyone to feel left out.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation
