Important Reminder for Parents of Students Attending 6th Grade in Sept. 2012

The New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services revised the administrative rules N.J.A.C. 8:57-4. The changes include two mandatory immunization requirements that effect students entering 6th grade in September 2012.

  1. “Every child born on or after January 1, 1997, and entering or attending Grade Six on or after September 1, 2008, shall have received one dose of Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, acellular pertussis) given no earlier than the 10th birthday.”
  2. “Every child born on or after January 1, 1997, and entering or attending Grade Six on or after September 1, 2008, shall have received one dose of a meningococcal-containing vaccine, such as the medically-preferred meningococcal conjugate vaccine.”

Parents are encouraged to make arrangements for children to receive these immunizations well in advance of September 2012. Students who have not presented evidence of immunization will not be permitted to attend school..... [read more]
