GIFTED AND TALENTED

The Enrichment Program is designed for children who excel in reading or math. The goal of the program is to challenge those children beyond classroom instruction and to fulfill a child’s learning potential. These children will have the opportunity to meet with the Enrichment Instructor for two sessions per week to develop their skills.

The Reading Enrichment Program stresses the enjoyment of literature, develops comprehension, critical and creative thinking skills, and oral and written language skills. Students utilize the Junior Great Book Reading Series to develop their literature analysis skills.

The Math Enrichment Program develops problem solving skills, and critical and creative thinking skills. Students work with the teacher to develop math contracts. Students complete these contracts under the guidance of the Enrichment Instructor.
Students from Kinnelon High School also serve as mentors to some students in the program. The high school students work with teachers to plan lessons that enrich the learning experience of the primary learner. The children really enjoy and benefit from this experience.

Entry into the Enrichment Program is based on a teacher’s recommendation and on a locally developed assessment checklist.
