What kinds of things does Mrs.
McClain do at Stonybrook School?
- Teach monthly
guidance lessons in each of the classrooms that focus on developing
students' social and academic skills.
- Work with individual
students to address the issues that kids today face on a daily basis:
dealing with the stresses of school and home, taking control of anxiety,
changes in families, bullying, handling emotions, being a friend, helping
with organization of school work, and many more.
- Act as a safe
place in school where children can come to express their feelings in
a confidential and non-judgmental environment.
- Work with small
groups of students to develop various skills and share feelings.
- Work with teachers
to develop action plans and strategies to help students succeed.
- Work with parents
and families to provide resources and support.
- Address inappropriate
behavior with students to help them make better choices and stay out
of trouble.
- Act as part of
Stonybrook's I&RS (Intervention and Referral Services) team.
- Work with Mrs.
Tadros to coordinate state testing practices.
