INCOMPLETE
GRADES
An incomplete grade will be given to any student who has not met the requirements
of a particular course for that marking period. Two weeks (effective from
the close of the marking period) will be allowed to make up the incomplete
work. An incomplete (I) mark which is not made up within this time limit
will automatically be considered a failing grade. The guidelines indicated
may be reconsidered upon recommendation by the guidance counselor and
approval of the administration. It is the responsibility of the student
to inform their teacher and the guidance counselor if there is any special
problem.
INSURANCE
All students are covered by a blanket (full excess) insurance policy for
student accidents during school hours. This coverage is provided at no
cost. If the parent desires, 24-hour coverage may be obtained. Coverage
and premium cost is described in a pamphlet to parents, which is sent
home the first day of school.

The use or possession of any item listed below is not permitted in the
school building. Any such items found in the possession of a student will
be confiscated and turned in to the administration.. They can be reclaimed
at the close of the day by a parent or guardian.

LIBRARY
MEDIA CENTER
The PRM library is the core of the instructional program, an extension
of every classroom in the school. It plays a vital role in the development
of an appreciation of reading for recreation and research. Every student
is responsible for the proper care of borrowed library materials as well
as the return of such items on time. Replacement of these materials will
be the student's responsibility. The Library Media Center is open all
day - before homeroom and after school until 3:45 on Tuesday. Students
have daily access as the schedules permit.
LOCKERS
School lockers are the property of PRM School. State law (as per N.J.
Statue: 18A:36-19.2) permits school officials to inspect a locker at anytime.
Students are granted use of the lockers and are expected to care for their
appearance. Students must purchase a school lock at the school store for
$5.00. Students cannot bring their own personal lock. Students losing
their combination may obtain it from the main office. If a lock is lost,
a new one can be purchased at the main office. Students must not share
their combination or locker with anyone. Any student who has a problem
with his/her locker must report the problem to the main office. All items
inappropriate for school or otherwise not part of the educational process,
are not permitted in student lockers and the school bears no liability
for these items.
MAKE-UP
WORK
Students who are going to be absent for a day or two should call classmates
or review information on the homework hotline in order to get their assignments.
The easiest way is to call a friend before they leave for school so that
assignments and dittos can be picked up during the day. The school
office can be called to request assignments after 3 consecutive days of
absence.
NONDISCRIMINATION
POLICY
It is the policy of the Kinnelon Board of Education not to discriminate
on the basis of race, color, creed, religion, sex, ancestry, national
origin, handicap, marital status in its education programs or activities
and employment policies as required by the Title IX of the Education Amendment
of 1972, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and N. J. A. C.
6:4-1.1 et. Seq.
PARTIES
Students are not permitted to bring to school treats or other food items
to share with others in the classrooms or the cafeteria. These procedures
are in accordance with the district's school nutrition policy. Our priority
is the safety of the students, including those with food allergies.
PASSES
A red pass must be used at all times. Students are required to write their
name, date, time left, destination and time returned.
PHYSICAL
EDUCATION
New Jersey law requires all students to participate in physical education,
unless they have medical reasons, which hinder participation. Students
not participating in physical education must still participate in health
classes. All students must dress properly for physical education classes.
Both boys and girls must wear an appropriate change of clothing and sneakers.
If a student is to be excused, a physician's note must be submitted stating
the length of time and the reason why the student must be excused from
active participation. Parent letters excusing their child are not permitted.
PROGRESS
REPORTS
One of the best methods of communication between the teacher and student
is by means of the progress report. This provides for greater cooperation
among parents, teachers and students. The objective of progress reports
is to inform parents of a student's academic status at a particular point
in time.
REPORT
CARDS
Report cards are distributed four times a year. Parents are encouraged
to review report cards with their children to provide guidance, motivation
and encouragement.
SEXUAL HARASSMENT
The Board of Education forbids any conduct or expression that may be construed
as the sexual harassment of a pupil, by an employee of the district or
by another pupil. The sexual harassment of a pupil includes all unwelcome
sexual advances or suggestions, requests for sexual favors, and verbal
or physical contacts of a sexual nature whenever such conduct has the
purpose of effect of intimidation or tends to create an intimidating,
hostile, or offensive educational environment.
The Superintendent shall direct the instruction of all pupils of their
right to be free of sexual harassment and innuendo and shall encourage
pupils to report any incident of sexual harassment to any teaching staff
member, counselor or administrator.
STUDENT
COUNCIL
The PRM Student Council is an organization of students elected by students.
Over the years the Student Council has been the voice of the student body
and the Council has developed into an effective forum for student government.
Students are encouraged to participate in making both their ideas known
to the student council officers and representatives, since the organization
can only function properly if the majority of students take an interest
and cooperate. During the school year the Student Council is involved
in many projects such as holiday dances and fundraisers.
SUBSTANCE
ABUSE POLICY
Please note that the following is an abbreviated version of the Board
of Education Substance Abuse Policy No. 5530. A full text version of the
policy and related regulations is available. The Board of Education recognizes
that a student's involvement with substances seriously impedes the student's
education and threatens the welfare of the entire school community. The
Board is committed to the prevention of substance abuse and the rehabilitation
of substance abusers but will take the necessary and appropriate steps
to protect the school community from harm and from exposure to harmful
substances. Accordingly the Board will maintain a comprehensive substance
abuse prevention, intervention and treatment referral program in the district.
For the purposes of this policy, "substances" shall mean;
- all substances
so designate and prohibited in New Jersey statues, all chemicals that

- anabolic steroids;
- all alcoholic beverages;
- all prescription
or patent drugs, except those for which permission to use in school
has been granted
Any violation of Board
policy, rules and/or regulations prohibiting the use, possession and/or
distribution of a substance covered in this policy is a serious offense,
and any student who violates this policy and its rules and regulations
will be disciplined accordingly. Repeated violations are to be considered
more severe offenses.
Student and/or parent refusal to cooperate with any and all phases of
the substance abuse policy and regulations may lead to exclusion from
school, and a referral will be made to the appropriate agency. If a parent
is in disagreement with the application or implementation of this policy
and its rules and regulations, she/he may request a meeting with the Superintendent
of Schools, as per due process procedure. (N.J.S.A.18:38-25; N.J.S.A.9:6-1
et seq.)
The Board will cooperate with law enforcement drug operations and activities
on or near school property in accordance with code (N.J.A.C. 6:3-6) and
the MEMORANDUM OF AGREEMENT between the Kinnelon Board of Education and
Law Enforcement Officials (1992). The Board prohibits the use, possessions,
and/or distribution of a substance on school premises, at any event away
from school premises that is sponsored by this Board, and on any transportation
vehicle provided by the Board.
Information regarding a student's involvement in the schools' intervention
process or in an outside treatment program shall remain confidential in
accordance with 408 of the DRUG ABUSE AND REHABILITATION ACT, 21 U.S.C.

If a student misses a bus, they should immediately report to the office
to call home.
Students who are reported
by the bus company to have behavior problems can be taken off the bus
for an extended period of time. Parents will be notified as the problems
occur.
Late buses leave the
school at 3:45 p.m., Tuesday through Thursday. These buses will accommodate
students who are staying for extra help or for a school related activity.
Students must indicate to their homeroom teacher that they are staying
