Dear Parents,

As part of our continuing effort to integrate the use of appropriate technology throughout our curricula, members of the Board of Education, the high school math and science departments, the building principal and the lead teacher recently examined our use of calculators in math and science classes. Our examination revealed an increase in the use of graphing calculators throughout our program. Therefore, effective this school year (2000-2001), all 9th and 10th grade students are required to purchase a graphing calculator for use in their math and science classes.

The model calculator required is the TI-83 or the TI-83 Plus. (The TI-83 Plus is a newer version with some additional features.) Those students who currently own the TI-83 need not purchase the newer model.

The choice of this make/model calculator was based on extensive research and close examination of the requirements of our math and science curricula. It is important that your student own one of these two models.

Graphing calculators are available for purchase at office supply stores such as Staples or discount stores such as B.J.'s. If this requirement imposes a financial hardship for your family, please contact the building principal.

Thank you for your continuing support of our efforts to provide the best quality education for you children.
