Curriculum and Instruction

The Office of Curriculum and Instruction continues to coordinate district programs and supplements the work done in individual schools in Kinnelon. The office works with curriculum committees made up of teachers and administrators to update curriculum based on student needs and state standards. Additionally, the office creates district professional learning opportunities that improve instructional practices. Professional Learning for teachers is offered across the grades and disciplines focusing on content, differentiation of instructional strategies, and the integration of technology into all areas. Kinnelon teachers have participated in local and state workshops, after-school programs Summer Institutes, and graduate courses, as well as summer curriculum projects.

In maintaining the Kinnelon mission of providing quality instruction for all students, district level offerings round out our programs. The Child Study Team (CST) provides services to classified students so that their needs are met in the least restrictive environment. English as a Second Language addresses the needs of the non- and limited English speaking population with courses that concentrate first on basic English language skills and then on English language literacy necessary for school success. The district continues to monitor and develop support programs and learning opportunities that meet the needs of our students, preparing them to be productive citizens and lifelong learners.

Additional information on grade level and department curriculum goals and activities will be added to this site over the next few months. Information on the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards (NJCCCS) is available at NJPEP.org, the New Jersey State Department's Web Site found at http://www.state.nj.us/njded/stass/. These core standards determine and align our K-12 curriculum as mandated by the New Jersey Department of Education. The 4th grade (ASK), 8th grade (GEPA), and 11th grade (HSPA) statewide assessments monitor our students' progress on the NJCCCS.
